lights don't work !

hi i have a 1995 Murray and the lights don't work i don't know if it the the switch in the key or the wire.

is the motor on, sometimes when the engine is not running the lights don't come on.

Could be a number of problems, wires connected?, loose connection, ripped wire, bad key, and have you unplugged and plugged the light plug, and are the bulbs blown?

Step one- Check the fuse!

Beyond that, check the bulbs. Then you're into checking the wiring, grounds, terminations, switches, etc.

To make sure the bulbs are good- take the wires off them. Get two lengths of new wire, and run one lead from each terminal on the bulbs to each terminal on the battery. Polarity doesn't matter. If the bulb lights, it's good- reconnect it.

To check the light switch- disconnect the wires to the switch, and connect the two wires together, start engine. If lights come on, switch is bad.
