 WOULD TWISTING THE BELT WORK?

i have a mtd yardmachine and i broke the transaxel. but i got a tranaxel from a john deere from a friend.the only problem i have is that the pulley on the john deere transaxel is side ways.and i wondering if twisting the belt would work or would it just fall off.scratch scratch

It would but you need more tensioners on the side and guards and also may need to change up the clutch on to the side
