14hp wisconsin on a 1960's craftsman!

ok so Im buying an old 14hp wisconsin TFD and I am simply going to strap it to a 1960's craftsman that a family member doesnt care for any more and am going to a simple pulley swap on a lockered hydro and add brakes. very simple yet deadly build I will post pics of the motor ASAP.

Is it horizontal shaft? those wisconsin's are known for being great engines, i have one on a snapper push mower which the hole thing is about as heavy as a regular riding mower. Which is like the only complaint people have on wisconsin's, they weigh a ton

no pics of the tractor atm. it is still at my grandparents. it is a horizontal shaft craftsman with a hydro transaxle and a starter generator that still works. now I plan on keeping  the hydro and locking it. I also plan on pulley swaping it to make a 1:1 and add brakes. more updates should be coming but mainly of the th motor because that is the first thing ill be getting for the project and I plan on doing a major rebuild of the motor sometime later.

Is that a twin cylinder I see there?


We have an old 9hp Wisconsin, pretty near all cast iron. Heavy bugger...
Its got a big gear reduction unit on it, Id like to build some sort of beefy tractor thing using it.

im paying $200 for it and from what it looks like ill add about $200 more in parts to get her running so I say in total $400 for the motor and the tractor im gettin for free from a family member.

Are you planning on "restoring" the engine any?
Recently there was a tractor show/fleamarket bout an hour away, I think I might have seen an engine like that. Pretty cool.

Recently there was a tractor show/fleamarket bout an hour away, I think I might have seen an engine like that. Pretty cool.

I am planning on doing a major overhaul and getting a set of rings because compression looks pretty low.the only reason I get the money to spend like this is because I budget it out and save a certain percentage of what I make to put towards these things. my total budget will probably be +-$800 or so

I finally got back in touch with the Wisconsin seller, he says he finally got a pallet and has shrink wrapped the whole shipment, all i have to do now is mail the money and have it shipped here to its new home in Texas

AWSOME! those wisconsins are tanks, much like my older tecumseh.. all those older cast iron engines were. hope it all goes well

This will indeed be interesting. Several years ago, I had a VERY similar Wisconsin I2 engine. It was big and heavy, but very cool. Highlights included an actual mechanical distributor and fuel pump. Speaking of fuel pumps, I see that yours is missing off the engine. Is the seller including it? If not, you can probably fab a block-off plate and use other means to deliver the fuel.

That old Wisconsin of mine (might have been 16hp, too), I got rid of because of the size and weight. I hadn't made the leap from go karts to tractors and couldn't think of a use for it. D'oh!

I think I might have seen an old wisconson at the scrap yard today... was missinf lots of parts, but still had a nifty gas tank... about 2 gallons or so...

Hey any spare parts you guys can grab to help me would be VERY appreciated even if they don't fit I'll still take it like a fuel tank would be nice to have lol just pm me to get the mailing address

I got rid of the engine quite some time ago. Give me some time to look around, I think I still have a bunch of carb parts- but I gotta find them.
