--Any progress on this yet guys?
--Also, I still cant post pics on this site. Would I beable to post my thread on diykarts.com?
--on the argument of limitations, at first I thought it should be tractor motor, trans, chassies and all that. But the more I think about it I think id be cool to see some all out kinda builds. I still think a tractor motor and appearance should be maintained but why not let people build with atv parts or kart parts or whatever they feel they can use to build the best tractor they can build.
Personally I plan to use more tractor stuff since thats what I have. But if I had and atv for parts I'd be usin them weather it disqualified me or not cuz the goal is to build it as best as possable.
Safety is for shore a fair requirement. Beyond brakes I think tearaway killswitches like are required in racing should be a requirement. I plan to put one on mine reguardless of weather its required. Although it'll probably be homemade.

1- Finished builds shall retain a general lawn tractor appearance (Four wheels, seating position in original location) If you can tell it's a lawn mower, your good.

2- Any ride on lawn mower type engine can be used. Other small motors such as motorcycle engines can be used but must be single cylinder. No huge V8's, VW engines, Sport bike 4 cyl's ect.

3- Mower should be build with safety in mind.

4- Judging based on popular vote (No idea how that would work). Final build pictures must be submitted before or on the final day of the build off. These should be two to three pictures. One picture must show the front and one side of the tractor. The second picture should show the rear and opposite side of the tractor. Third pic, if used can be whatever shot you want. Final build pics can be in a sepaerate thread at some point.

Just my thoughts. More or less, people can build what they want, without getting too out of hand/off topic. People have a wide choice of engines available and everything will more or less look like a lawn mower. Less strict rules mean much easier rule enforcement. Also I think it would encourage the most number of people to build something. I don't know about how many posts you have to make while building your tractor. I've seen on some forums where you have to make a post about it every set number of days or they delete your thread. I guess you should have some minimum, but maybe only once a month. If you took a few weeks off, what would you have to post? Of course you could post as often as you want. Which most people would anyway, if you were making progress. You guys can iron out the details of course, just thought something along these general lines would be less complicated to figure out.
I'm up for this, but why limit it to single cylinder?

I say, let's hear who's going to attend in the build competition.

Yeah keeping it open is better. I vote for the rules i listed. Dont limit it to just tires, having a tracked mower would be awesome, or some other crazy idea.

They should be able to use any kind of engine that was on a mower, not a big tractor like a John Deere with a 3cyl diesel...

They can post whatever pictures they want in a dedicated build-off thread, but they have to be dedicated to enter. Im sure you could find out who's ready and who isnt.

And yea i like modified's idea, post a picture at lest every month.

---Heck yea! Tracks would be awsome! And as far as single cylinder engines only. That would be messed up. All three of my engines are briggs opposed twins. I vote lawn and garden tractor engines only. So if you find a three cylinder garden tractor engine, you should get to use it.

Nope. Completely separate entity. The fact that I work there too is entirely coincidental.

That's a cool little video Thunder... Thanks!

I guess we hash them out a little longer, and then an executive decision has to be made.

scratch  So lets just see what everyone suggests and take all the rules people can agree on and just write up a rule thread?

Something like that. We'll also have to hash out the dates. Many people may shy away form a winter build.

The no winter build makes sense. Unfortunately that probly puts me out. Though I dont have the cash to start now I plan to start my Montgomery build sooner then spring by far. But who knows what will happen by then. I may have a new tractor to build by then.

im likeing april through oct31st. it gives us April and May as a slowly starting our process, June, July, and August to hit it hard and September and October to finish it. Thats how i see it. being in school, this would be my best time period for a good decent build. Summer i would get A LOT of work done on it

I say no rules. Long as it fits the name Offroad mower or what ever. What if I got a tractor with a 3cyl yanmar I want to build?

Apparently you didnt read it lol...... rules prevent people "naling a craftsman hood to a jetski"

Now that thats cleared up, does anyone have anything against my rules at all? like anything wrong with them?

I chased a link at Southern off road mowers to this site and topic. I like the whole idea and would certainly participate... Like your site a lot also Very Happy I'll post a link at Hillbilly Off Road Mower Association, maybe get a couple more involved.

I just meant it could only be a single cylinder if it wasn't a lawn mower engine. Just to keep things looking like a lawn mower. If it came from a mower number of cylinders wouldn't matter. Either way, might be cool to see some bigger engines used. I would imagine most people will go with smaller engines anyway.

Perhaps we could keep it it "tractor" (IE NOT nailing a craftsman hood to a jetski) by simply having a rule such as:

*All entries must use a frame originally from a lawn tractor, yard tractor, or garden tractor.

Or chassis. I dont really care.
I wanna see creativity and some clean builds also some newthinking if I were to be judging this.
So why have a ton of rules that limit any build?

So if a guy did nail a Craftsman hood to a jetski, so what? would he ever win?! bounce
