this should help anyone who wants to easily improve their brakes. I bought the mechanical caliper from BMI Karts and welded a disk from a mountain bike I had to the stock one on the transmission. I made the bracket to mount the caliper and welded it to the frame of the tractor. then I just ran cable to a pedal and put a spring on the arm to pull the brake back when I release the pedal. It works pretty well for what I need it to do, but I have found that if you have not locked your diff, one wheel will lose traction and spin backwards, sending you crashing into a tree (I locked my diff after that lol).

Looks pretty decent. A note: That is a caliper designed to float, on a fixed mount. Make sure the splines on the brake rotor are crust-free, and well lubed, as IT must float to compensate.

And yes folks- heed his words regarding braking an open diff. At slow speed, no problem. At high speed, it's downright freaky and potentially very dangerous!

This tractor sees high water a lot so it goes through a lot of grease lol.

I'm just happy to see a decent mechanical caliper in there! I use that style for go karts and they are pretty dang good. I've seen guys use bicycle calipers and I must say, i would not.

I still have the calipers from that bike but I would never use them on anything but a bike.
