Just curious as to why you went with direct steer, were the gears stripped out on the steering? or do you just prefer direct steer?

The front arm the tie rods came off of was siezed and the main gear was missing. Had no other choice really.

I finished the handlebar today. Totally slipped my mind to take a pic of the mount finished upl close but whatever. Either way, it works great. Room for improvement, but I can steer now. And yes, I was totally using that 6x6 as a seat.







Gas tank is just temporary, although it seems to work ok. Might just make the angle mount longer so it gets both holes and reinforce the firewall. Also plan on hooking up a diaphragm pump again. Dont really need it since its gravity fed right now, but itll help keep the right pulse.



Slapped the tins on and it looks ok! Have to do some tweaking to the mounts on the hood, and some new screws for the side panels. Also need bolts to connect the fenders to the floorboards, and a new seat. REALLY needs a new seat. Not sure if im gonna buy a new lowback or get a pan seat. Then itll be time for paint prep.

OK I need more help with this friggin thing. Its still running rich and just about flooding. I have tried adjusting it but it still looks like a gasoline tornado in the carb when it runs. Any ideas? Would rather not have to buy a new carb but if thats what it comes to ill do it.

make sure the carb is clean especially the needle and seat and make sure the float has no holes in it.

It was pretty clean when I pulled the top half. Float has no holes. Probably the needle seat.

Ordered a carb overhaul kit. Should be here tomorrow and work on it Friday. Fingers crossed it solves it.

Saw one of these in the local mower graveyard, pretty rough looking. 100 bucks would probably get it. I don't need it, too much to do....

Take it and mail it to me piece by piece.

ive always liked the older square craftsman GTs, my uncle actually scrapped one a while ago and i ended up with the 12" rear rims and tires and the 8"fronts and the transaxle. too bad he junked it before i was into off road mowers.

if you can come across some atv handle bars they are alot stronger than the bike ones and you could make something to work, i actually have a set of snowmobile handle bars that i always have wanted to mount onto my craftsman but havent made direct steering yet, then i would use the thumb throttle and the brake handles if possible one has a brake light switch built in but its a hydraulic brake, also has handle bars and a kill switch.
