selectible locker!

I had a stroke of ginious last night... just lock your diff and if you want to have it unlocked just take the key out of the axle/wheel and if you want it locked put it back in!

only do it on one side, though...

Yea, maybe if you made bushings for the rim and axle and keyway then it might be better.

I think he means; weld the diff, and then if you want it unlocked, just remove a key from one wheel. The other wheel will drive.

The only problem I see with this, is when turning. If you take the key out of the left side, and turn right, the driven wheel will spin like crazy and tear up the lawn.

oh yeah lol keep forgetting havent had my nos yet so still waking up! but I still think it would mess up your keyway pretty good if you just had the tire spinning on it or mess the one in the rim

Interesting, but impractical, IMO. The free spinning side is likely to maul the shaft and or wheel bore in fairly short order. Murphys law dictates the locked side will lose traction when you're goofing off a bit or the lawn is softer from the spring runoff than you bargained for. Plus... who the heck wants to jack it up and take a wheel off to change modes, especially if you're already stuck? Then you fumble the key in the mud...

It has been my experience thus far, that you can stay locked up and it is quite manageable in all but the most infrequent situations.

Keep thinking though, you're on te track..

I was thinking that someone could do a limited slip with a love joy coupler and no bushing in the middle.
so you could still have posy but still have axle movement

I'm not sure how well that will work but it was an idea.

I was thinkin that if you slightly filed the eges of the keyway and greased the heck out of it it may work. I don't need a jack to lift up the side of my mower, just lift it up and stick my knee under it.

Than would be HARSH. Breakage in minutes due to the slop caused by the rubber spider being missing. Something similar could be done, but you'd have to have it so that there is no play when engaged.

my buddy cody's simplicity 6011 came factory with a limited slip. i still cant figure out what tranny it is.

if i was gonna devise something like this, i would copy the design that Ariens used on my snowblower. theres 2 sets of dogs, one low and one high. one is connected to the axle, the other is wrapped in basically a rachet. when you pull a lever on the handle bar, it pulls the racheting one up, disengaging the left axle. its tuff to explain, when it gets nice out, i'll have to take a vid of how it works

that is almost like how the older bolens ( G-14 G-10) are except they have a big nut or somthing on one side of the axle, and when you want to tighten it or make it almost like a locked rear end you simpaly tighten the nut.

and if u want to have a very loose dif you loosen the nut

this is a good idea,has anyone thought of doing a locking hub like on a 4x4 front end on one side?
