| It all depends what your needs for the tractor are. If you will be racing and have direct steer setup on it I would go handlebars. That way you can have a twist or thumb throttle and your brake setup on there. If you are doing romping with stock or modified steering (i.e. Rack& Pinion) I would leave the steering wheel. Remember if you will be romping with big meaty front tires you won't want direct steer. It would be hard to turn with the big tires. Now look at the ARMA racers. They run 13" or 15" tires or something like that. They are fine with direct steer, along with that you would want direct steer or modified steering if you will be going over about 30mph. It gets pretty sketchy.
PS- Modified steering can also include if you go through your steering and essentially "race prep" it. This means- Grease fittings, bronze bearings (or even new plastic ones), and just taking all the slack out of it.
It is all personal preference... | |

| I have direct steer, as I use the tractor as short transportation, and I was tired of the craftsman steering shenanigans so I ripped it all out and went direct. Switch those big beefy tires it appears to be fine o small super easy trails, but I haven't really gone on anything big yet.. | |

| If you want belly pan, sheetmetal would do just perfect. Now, if you are looking for a skid plate to bash off rocks you will need something thicker. | |
