PostSubject: KohlerCoalRoller's Coast to Coast Trail Blazer   KohlerCoalRoller's Coast to Coast Trail Blazer Icon_minitimeFebruary 1st 2015, 5:29 pm

My basic idea of this tractor is to go anywhere and do anything that a normal 4 wheeler can do, but somewhat small and nimble to where I can go where they can't. Its a mid 80's coast to coast with a 11hp briggs and a 5 speed peerless 800 series. I am going to replace the 11hp with a 17 hp briggs opposed twin with a snorkel/cold air intake, side pipes or stack. It will have a slight lift(1-3 inches) ti will have big 24'' tall tires with a homemade hub on the rear. I am going to rebuild the clutch, rewire it, add lights and a winch, tool box and a pull start. It will be pulley swapped with a 6-4 and attempt to get to atleast 30mph. the transmission with be locked. Since it's a mtd product, I will have to make the flame a bit stiffer and add skid plates along with transaxle braces. These are the basic ideas that I want to make happen on this tractor. More stuff will be added when more money arrives this spring and summer.

Well today I got the engine and transaxle out, now I need to make my own hubs and tear into the transaxle to clean and lock it. I also have to drill the old bolts out of the opposed twin to mount it.

Cool build. Never heard of a "coast to coast" before but mtd has a bunch of brands. Are you sure your trans will stand up to 24" tires? I have a 801 series and it looks tough, but I don't know about 24 inch tires tough.

He's working so fast on it that he didn't have time to get pics. I'll bet he'll get some soon when he pauses for a short break! Those craftsmans are kind of neat looking with those big square hoods. Good luck with it.

I like the square hoods also. They are kind of an iconic design if you know tractors. Kind of like the square body Chevy of mowers.

Well things didn't go as planed, got the engine and trans out, but it being a mtd, it has the stupid flat axle shafts the rims are rusted on, didn't get the trans taken apart either and the opposed still sits in the shed. Then I got sick so its been a while since I went out to work on it, those tires are 23-8-11 so I think they would work for now unless I find something else. I also have to get a new plug for the oil drain for the opposed too. if the 801 breaks then I have a 930 5 speed and a new old spicer 4360 to use.

My Ford YT came with a 801 and 23s so I believe it would be able to easily handle 24s.
