[FINALIST] - CraftsmanQuad's CraftsmanQuad Mark II [2019 buildoff entry]

I shot some sea foam branded penetrating oil in the spark plug holes while I was turning it over, thick stuff like chain lube. Didn’t seem to help much. Really hoping it’s an external issue and I don’t have to open a brand new engine!

OK, with some more information here...

I had this happen once. On my onan. Fired and ran fine, then up and seemed to lock up. Turned out a DirtDobber created a nest in the exhaust port. Running the engine loosened it. One start it got sucked into the piston chamber and it seemed locked up, hard to turn over due to debris.

I’ll grab my borescope from work before I head home and take a look. The less gaskets I have to replace the faster everything will be up and running

Flywheel off, zero charging system. Nothing under there. Borescope shows both cylinders are clear. Thinking at this point it’s either valve train or bottom end. Really hoping for valve train

Nothing in the valve train. Tonight the engine comes off, and I’ll pull the sump this weekend

Hey! Still having issue with the engine, didn't you say you could throw in a smaller engine and do the walk around?  Don't let an opportunity slide for an engine with a gremlin in it. Heck, the slant single has bragging rights lasting though Haspin!

Haha I have a single that I can make work for a demo video. I prefer not to, but if all else fails that’s my backup plan. Worst case scenario it needs a carb cleaning and a coil

Yup

It lives!!! Turns out the hub from the crank pulley was pinching the frame between itself and the sump. Next time I pull the engine off I will make that hole larger with the plasma cutter.

Well that's definitely good to hear, I new it had to be something simple. So now she'll be finished with the new engine!
