how good are the peerless 930 trannys? I'm thinking about offering this guy $80 for the opposed twin and the tranny. http://bellingham.craigslist.org/grd/4362048224.html

I have one, pretty generic... parts available.... doc has split a 920 in half so they all have their weaknesses. depends on how hard you romp them. remember they were just made for cutting grass. I think there right behind the mst and 801 style axles in strength

all right, thanks for responding. don't you have one in the mtd? also, does anyone have any idea on what the high gear ratio is?

I've got one and been romping on it for a year had it going 45, no probs with it other then keeping gear oil in it, and the input bearings are going out from the high speedsXD

Yes mines in my mtd. It doesnt get beat to hard because i need to re do my clutch, but its lasted good, makes a small wining noise. The ends of the case thats hug the axles are worn out too.... i just keep on running it

thanks for replying, I was wondering about the berings because the ones on the imput on the jd's wear out for some reason.

I'm running a modified 930 right now. Doc Locked° and filled with ATF. No issues thus far.

The Peerless 920 and 930 are a BIGGER unit in size and as such, could require some subtle changes in drive belt size/length, idler pulley, brackets, linkages and etc. Well you just have to choose which of which fits to your beast, they are good!
