transaxle - vent in mst 206 transaxle Empty
PostSubject: vent in mst 206 transaxle   transaxle - vent in mst 206 transaxle Icon_minitimeSeptember 9th 2016, 9:31 am

Have seen over the internet that people are venting their transaxles, and my question is what is the purpose of this? I have an MST-206 transaxle that uses oil and was wondering if it would be a good idea to vent it.

I think this is mainly done by guys running at very high speeds for long periods of time. It's to let the air pressure created by all the spinning gears out of the trans case, so it doesn't blow a seal or something. Same idea as the PCV on an engine.

Yes, to vent pressure build up from the friction. Just the gears turning, pushing the oil or grease out of the way makes friction, friction is heat. Plus the bushings and bearings too. Got the right idea here.

I would run a breather tube up higher on the tractor to try to keep water from getting in it and making chocolate milk out of your gear oil.

Probably not. As long as you're not running for long periods of time. But it is a good thing to have as it keeps everything 'relaxed' in the transmission.
