Kohler Hoarding! $20 K321

On today's episode of Kohler Hoarders! I picked up this beauty from Redzz02 for $20





It's low on price and compression, but I could not resist the deal.  I think it's neat that it has a magneto and a starter/generator.  I'm no Kohler s/n expert but maybe it's a 69?  It has a glass fuel bowl on the tank and a hard line going to the fuel pump.  No hole drilled and tapped for a convenient dipstick, but it has a fill plug on the oil pan.  It looks pretty complete.

I don't know when, but I'd like to get the motor and starter/generator running just for fun and go from there.

If you get a better picture of that serial number I should be able to find out the year for ya.

@TheBeal mud rat? maybe buts there's not a ton of room under the hood in that thing, maybe a corn sheller or generator at the farm? I have no idea

Let me throw a curveball at you.

Is it possible the T is a carryover of the model of 321 "T" for retractable start and the S/N would be just 691090, but that is not enough digits.  Looking at the pic, it almost looks like an 8 is doublestamped over the 9.  If it is 69'8'1090  Then the 69 would denote a 1974 model engine I think according to the Service manual.

Yeah I was wondering about the over stamped numbers too. The T in the serial doesn't seem right, doesn't work with the info I have.

If it was a 1969 engine, the serial number should start with the letter E.

On a more serious note I think 20 bucks was a good deal for sure. As long as the connecting rod is in one piece I don’t see why it wouldn’t run

I just double checked the S/N again and it's T681090 with a "9" stamped over the "8"

Maybe this s/n tag was stamped late on a Friday afternoon?

It certainly appears that way! Hahaha.

So if we can assume it's just a bit jumbled up and that the serial number is 6981090, that would make it a 1974.

Nice find! Just a suggestion, if I were you, I'd put it in Ol' Red and put the K181 from Ol' Red in Mud Rat. Seems like that would work out well!

I know it is more HP, but he has Red dialed in it seems now.

Well I mostly said that because I don't want to see the Mud Rat build go, and this K301 probably won't fit very easily in Mud Rat, but the K181 might.
