Starting a new build for the TTC competitions and assorted other rides. This build will be similar to Keizer's with a few exceptions. Its going to be light weight, high horsepower, super sharp steering and enough speed to whip the stretched mud mowing dragsters at there own game. First clip in the series will be weighing a few cubs for comparison to SGT Pepper. Next clip will introduce SGT Pepper and talk about a few of the mods coming.
Stay tuned this build could be spectacular.
Best Regards, Mister Studabaker
This tape is all about gathering weights of a few cub cadets. The focus is on SGT Pepper's weight on how he stacks up to the rest of the tractors.

I haven't seen the video yet so I am sorry if you mentioned it, but are you going to do the computerized setup like on Keizer? If so, I am sure there are some really interested people on how you set that up.
@MightyRaze Yep the computer and everything else Keizer received and more. First things first though, axle removal and fitment of the gear trans axle. Then the unmodified 18hp kohler command will be placed on the frame for drive shaft and clutch placement or whether the motor plate needs some changes done.
@AllisKidD21 Lonely Hearts Club Band that's funny. Maybe this build will be a little more organized. Its going to be a wild and exciting next couple of months
Stay tuned lots of stuff heading this way fast.

I see the competition isn't just gonna sit around waiting for next years TTC. Sounds like this one will be a bit speedier than the old machine. Now it's an all out horse power race! Next years competition is going to see a lot of on the edge action I would think...
I think the next TTC is gonna be a real good Ol fashion slobber knocker, Tom of super stout machines being built specifically for it, and the rigs that would be coming back ain’t no slouch to start with, I love it !

@mr.modified so this doesn’t turn into an all out hp pisssing match lol, I think we are doing some technical driving next year not based on time for slower machines to be just as competitive.
These purpose built comp rigs are going to be a hoot and one heck of a show, sgt pepper is going to be stout

@TheBeal The intention is yes a new TTC build but it has to beat Keizer in every fashion including the "STRETCHED MUD MOWING DRAGSTERS". This is going to be a huge undertaking.
@Creepycrawler Agreed, a huge slobber knocker. The footsteps coming are loud...
@redzz02 Technical driving is what your course is all about. HP ehh.. not so much..

@redzz02 Simplicity racing team accepts some inevitable rule and layout changes for next season. However, we would like to request that we be made aware of major changes with ample time to design a machine to be competitive under any new system. As of now of course, our design work has been primarily focused on building a machine which would be competitive at the 2019 TTC event as that is the only information that we have had available thus far. While we are primarily focused on our own teams efforts of course, we would also guess that the other teams are in a similar situation. Would it be possible to start a thread to discuss such matters? As we are trying to build the best machine possible to match the unknown conditions of next years event, every bit of information available could mean better tire selection, steering, engines, ect. The Simplicity teams budget is no laughing matter. If we buy one wrong set of tires, we're stuck running them the entire season. There won't be anything left for another shot. And it doesn't help that our sponsors were not all that thrilled with our 6th place finish this year.
(Sorry to get so off topic but just saying)
On a more relevant note, this new cub build should be pretty impressive if it ends up lighter and with more HP than keizer. I'll be keeping an eye on this thread as well.
Cub must have had pretty much the most rugged parts out of any brand I would think. The only thing heavier would be like those Pennsylvania panzer things that used the automotive rear. Not sure what they had for a transmission. But as far as being build specifically for a lawn tractor, these are pretty nice.
I was just wondering, probably missed it somewhere but how do you gear these things up with no pulleys to swap? Are gears available? I was thinking it's really nice to not have to worry about belts, but wondered how you got the extra speed.
Agreed belts are high maintenance on the other hand heard somewhere that the blue ones are top shelf. Gears are available, Keizer has a 47% overdrive on the first stage. SGT Pepper will have something a little more trick. Working out the design and manufacturing side to increase the top speed by 2x this will make the creeper more useful other than as a loading gear.
Stay tuned lots of new designs will be added to this build.

That's good that stuff is available for it. I haven't had a huge amount of problems with my belt setups for the most part. Just the annoying thing is getting it right when your building it and trying to line everything up. With a normal style clutch like you have, that takes most of the hassle out of it at least.
SGT Pepper has been stripped of his mowing and power steering duties. Oh the Cub Cadet folks are gonna roll over in there graves, have sleepless nights and trick my house. But hey, they had there chance... Put together a little clip for you all to view. Pulled the motors and weighed them. Pulled the lift components and hydraulics out and weighed them too. Looked at what needs to be done to place the manual steering box and V Twin in. Wonder if the motor should be named? like OX or something idk. Thought play was pressed when the 5lb hammer was used to push the rusted in cross pin through the lift components. That was a work out.

mr.modified, the clutch was very tough to line up when the frame kept moving around. During the creepycrawler's ride this last spring you can hear the clutch rattling away in the clips. Once the flex was found and promptly strengthened then the clutch became solid. This will be looked at closely with SGT Peppers set up.
Decided to leave the wiring off until last minute due to painting and various other activities. Motor weight comparisons clip attached. Keizer has a similar motor to the K301 12hp and SGT Pepper will now have the Kohler Command V twin at a substantial weight loss over the oppy let alone all the mower and hydraulics being removed as well. Next step install motor, review clutch set up position, manual steering placement and to see if drive shaft is going to long enough. SGT Pepper is almost ready to be moved into the garage where all the fun stuff begins.
Few things came in the mail this week. Looking to include them on the next update.

Sgt Pepper had his motor installed today for drive shaft length check, mocked up clutch arm on the donor, idea hit on throttle set up, new parts arrived this week: two barrel intake, axle bearings and pop provided the military carb.

It has lots of years of sitting a shelf until pops bought it and then it sat on his shelf for a few years. Its never been used. Has a stainless steel float needle, go figure.
Nice setup. The venturi isn't considered a restriction because of how it works and what it does, but does need to be tuned to the engine air flow going in for proper throttle response.

@prancstaman Thank you, that works. So its a venturis nice clean flow in and out vs a restricter plate at .125 thick by 1" diameter flow which would be rough and crude that makes the difference.

Yes, nice smooth flow because of the shape. The air speeds up going into the venturi and creates a vacuum, which is how the fuel is pulled in. For tuning, the more the venturi chokes you get a stronger vacuum signal for the fuel and main jets, which will make the engine very responsive at low rpm. If you enlarge the venturi then the vacuum is less for the fuel to be drawn in at low rpm and will be sluggish at low rpm but responsive a high rpm.
It's been a good while since I had to deal with venturi size. You can look up Holley and Edelbrock Carbs, They offer this feature of tuning on their carbs. And drag racers and circle track cars play with the stuff.
