Its a old briggs ohv i am pretty sure, i have to look at the motor cover again

Im gonna sell the simplicity as much as I like it, bought it for 50 bucks so its a good flip....

The craftsman I am not 100% sure but I have a plow & chains for it, so might use it or sell it closer to winter time when people want them...The starter is off the tractor and the guy gave up on working on it...


I have 14+ tractors at the moment, so I am looking for flips that I can do quick.... keep the ones I like...

Nice! I love the look of the square body Craftsmans. I think that's an OHV Tecumseh in the Craftsman. If you're unsure, post some pics and we'll identify it.

ok so the OHV is a sears tecumseh 143 part number, and the other one is a briggs with a briggs part number... I was hoping they were the same, because i hate tecumseh, but we will see if i can get it going...

GOT allot of work done this weekend, got the simplicity mower running, it wouldn't start because of a bad ground. Got the engine out of the grey parts tractor, and finally mowed some grass with this GT. I ran it out of gas the week before and it would not restart. So I pulled the carb & replaced all the fuel lines.

The engine at the top of the post above your last one is a Tecumseh. The one below that is a Briggs.

aww yeah look what I got today.... john deere stx30  has a not briggs (kohler) 12hp and a 38" deck.... runs but needs work.  Missing the damn key, but gonna clean it up and see how it works.  Paid 40 bucks for it...

Neat looking Deere! Don't think that's a Briggs though, I'd be willing to bet it's a Kawasaki or a Kohler Command.

yeah i think you are right, it must be a 12hp kohler, I only peeked under the hood for 1 sec... I always think everything is a briggs...

Hey fyi if it's a Kawasaki read the dipstick carefully, it says on there not to screw it all the way down to take a correct oil reading.  I guess they do things differently in Japan.  My trikes are the same way.

Based on placement of the oil filter, it’s a Kohler. Looks like he edited his post to specify as well

It will be a kohler command 14 or 14.5 hp ohv . I had a stx 46 as my first modded mower bit the frame flexes way to much so it got scrapped eventually . Engine lasted for about 3 years ungoverned until the plastic timing gear brome.

Buttery smooth engines when they run but parts are more expensive and they’re more finicky in my experience (as opposed to a Briggs)

I haven't had any less issues with my kohlers than my Briggs.

Haha yeah first green one I have bought...anyway I haven't got it out of my truck yet but it is actually a STX38, here is the sticker...

I think I have a STX38 with a hood or stickers off a STX30



I know it is a 12 horse engine so according to tractor data its a kohler CV12.5

Maybe it's had a hood swap at some point in its life. Is that one of those infamous plastic ones?

I like the look of that JD. How well are they made? I assume it's not a hydro, seeing as the sticker says 'GEAR'. What trans does it have?

It is a gear trans with a plastic hood. I got it out of my truck tonight finally & the deck was supposed to be broken but the guy was retarded and didnt know how it was supposed to mount. It has a hand lever in the middle in front of the seat to raise and lower.

So now im just missing a key and for some reason the battery cables are ripped out.

Maybe those battery cables disappeared when the price of copper went up.

I've seen those john deere keys if it's the one I'm picturing at lowe's before.

I'm a redneck, but I'd just use a screw driver.

So on the craftsman II with the broken mixture screw, I carefully drilled out the remaining parts of the thread, then re-tapped the hole. Grabbed a screw from another carb & tested the tractor and now it runs great.
