Getting lots of welding done tonight. Got the other side along the top of the frame welded on completely. Metal was a little rusty and I rushed the prep so the welds didn’t come out as nice.

Gonna clean up the seam along the back plate so I can weld that on too. The plate that makes the hitch. Not sure how far I’ll get this weekend, tomorrow is completely booked and Sunday is still up in the air, but I’m sure I can slip out to the shop for an hour or two

Sounds good man! When welded on my back plate it seemed like it eliminated alot of flex. One really important brace that still need to do and that I think you should do is when you twist the frame the smaller forward transaxle mounts bow out. If you could eliminated that you coulf get rid of alot oc twist.

When I get the belt setup all put together I might see if I can weld a piece of rebar to each one that goes across and keeps them from bending in or out. Think that would work?

Ya I think that would do the trick. Didn't Strength put 2 pieces of rebar in that location as belt guards?

He might’ve. I snapped a couple pics for AK before I closed up. Lot less consistent today, but threw some decent ones down (frame on its side on jackstands)

Pulled the 820 apart tonight and have the case halves full of diesel just soaking overnight. The grease that came out was the color and consistency of chocolate syrup. Grease was no more than 50 degrees.

Everything looks to be in really good shape, just a little dirty from being covered in the sludge. Will I need to do anything special to convert to oil?

Are you live axle swapping or doing brake upgrade?

I've heard people say you need to put a breather in to use oil, but I'm not sure if that's true. It's a good idea regardless, though.

Yeah I forgot about the breather.

No I was gonna use the factory axle and just weld the spider gears. Kind of a hybrid fearlessfront/fozzy locker

They come apart though. Just like a 1200/2300 or what have you.

Ya I was thinking you would have to do it with one side plate of the carrier off. And it still might be DIFFicult. Lol

I know they come apart, but people usually weld the spider gears to the pin while they're in the trans, that way they are sure to not have alignment issues.

Ya I was locking a Spicer recently and tried to weld everything stiff th add strength and oh boy do I regret it. I worped when I tried to tack it and I ended up having to break it apart and do it fearless style.

Got the fenders lowered finally. Next step will be attaching the footboards and trimming off the excess from the bottom. Threw the hood on it just for fun. Can’t wait to see this thing all put together finally, still a long way to go

Looks great man! Good to see you at it in the shop. I can't wait to see this thing take shape. Your fenders look alot better then mine. I wish I had done what you did.

Don’t say that yet lol, still don’t know how tires will fit and how strong they will be.

I still need to order the final drive for my 820 but I’ve been pumping a lot of money into trying to get the impala running for prom so the final drive may have to wait a couple weeks unfortunately.

Ooooh, I didn't know you were running a different final drive in this rig, that's going to be sweet. What ratio is it exactly?

It’s the one between stock and what the mowrons run. They recommend I overdrive a little with belts and then add the less aggressive aftermarket gears and that will save my shift keys. All of theirs are pretty much 1:1 on pulleys but they still top at 45-50. That’s a lot of strain on shift keys so they’re constantly cracking open the transaxles to change them.

Lol they actually celebrated that they didn’t need to open up a single transaxle the whole trip last year. Redzz02 had to but that’s a different story....
