So I have a Kohler Command 12.5HP in my tractor right now, and im getting a parts tractor with a 12HP Briggs and Stratton. Should I keep the Kohler or swap in the Briggs?

I agree with CraftsmanQuad, although I am a huge fan of the old Kohler K series, I've heard some pretty bad things about newer Kohlers. I have two Briggs though, a 12.5hp and 11hp, and I recommend the Briggs engines.

As long as the Briggs runs, use it.

assuming they are both flathead engines, use the briggs. i love the old briggs, and like AllisKid said, ive heard bad things about them kohlers. stick with briggs, she wont fail you!

in my experience Kohler is a lot better than briggs. i hate briggs and stratton carburetors. i got a locked up Kohler Command and i just sprayed a little WD40 down the cylinder and got it loose and ive been running it on my lawn mower for 3 years now with no problems. oil stayed clear for 2 years without changing it. idk what my problem is with briggs and stratton but i just cant seem to be able to get them running and i HATE them. their flathead push mower engines tho are great i love them. but anything OHV or bigger than 8 hp i hate

The Command series were pretty good. I'd use that.

i swapped a kohler ohv single 12 in my craftsman and had to drill 2 new mounting holes. the kohler wiring is so complex on my machine i said screw it and completely rewired and it works.
