| Thanks mrshaft! Yeah she runs fantastic too, I even did a bit of mowing with it the other day: I was only able to do a little bit before the old deck belt I was using broke. But oh well, it was fun for a bit, haha. _______________________________________________ "This'll either wake you up or put you to sleep forever!"- Red Green "Whatever you do you should do right, even if it's something wrong." - Hank Hill - MTD Off-Road Build - Ford LT 110 Off-Road Build - Craftsman GT 6000 Off-Road Build - Sears LT11 Rat Rod Build *2019 Build-Off Winner!* - Allis B-110 x2, 710 & 716 - Wheel Horse 655, 953 & 500 Special - Case 444 - Bolens Versamatic & 1668 - Cub 106 & 124 - Ford LGT 125 & 145 - White 1650 Yard Boss | |

Yep, my high school deleted the email account I used to make it after I graduated. I’m quite peeved. When I get the motivation I’ll rename my channel I’ve been lurking with lately to match my old one and start uploading again but I’m so sick over losing all my content that I really don’t even want anything to do with it. I even asked when I made the channel and the school said I was good.

| Ever had one of those moments where you just can't believe something happened? Hah. I was out mowing with the MTD and the swisher, going like 4 mph, and I went under a tree. A tree branch caught the top of my nice bluetooth sound-dampening headphones, knocked them off my head, and before I could stop I shredded them with the swisher. Damn it. Oh well, I'd had that pair for probably 5 years. They're like a $60 pair, I wear them about 15 hours a week, I've worn them so much the brand name wore off the top of them, so I guess I got my money's worth out of them. But damn it. At least it waddn't my foot or something though. | |

| Put my 'burans to work today! Grass was a foot deep in some areas... I should have been more on top of that. I worked them for about 6 hours. Briggs in Thor (the mower one) worked flawless! I think I could idle it up a bit I think. I don't think I have all my RPM's. Payday I'll get me one of those snazzy meters to measure that and adjust as necessary. Still powered through it like nobody's business. Grandpa was on pickup duty as the grass was so thick. I still need to hit the back yard with the sweeper. I kid you not, I think it could be bailed. _______________________________________________ Li'l RED my original modified tractor!Forum Admin -- Chat Admin-- Facebook Page Admin ATLTF Facebook Page -- How To Upload PicturesHave a question? | Hi! Im thinking about building wheelhorse/mudmower for our family farm. In our country decent ATV starts from 15000 USD and thats just "a little" too much for electric fence repair works etc. We use our old USSR tractors & Dodge pickup truck (harmony among superpowers:D ) for hunting and gathering firewood. But geting in & out from those things for a thousand times a day is too much of a hussle.
So, I am browsing the interwebs for some old but decent mower. The purpouse of this poor mans ATV will be getting a 200 lbs guy + small trailer (or some DIY rack boxes) from A - B. And hopefully, in the end of the day, back to A.
What should I choose?
1. Manual or automatic gearbox?
2. Minimum HP?
3. What else?
If there is an open discussion with this topic, sorry – feel free to share an URL.

| Definitely manual transmission. No minimum power really, that depends on your gearing and desired speed.
Look for an AYP based mower chassis. In the states they’re commonly branded as craftsman, poulan, or husqvarna. There are others but those are the three most common.
Welcome to the forum! Feel free to start your own thread where you can further discuss your build and share pictures in a thread dedicated to your build. This (as the title states) is more of the free conversation thread, good luck!

| Types of frames, really whatever suits your tastes best as long as it's not MTD. You looking for a Wheel Horse I believe? They'd be a bit more expensive than your Craftsman/Murray frames, but they'd probably serve you better.
As for transaxles, if you want a decent speed, than definitely get a manual and be sure it's not an FNR type one.
And HP, well, you could really use anything, but I would prefer at least 10 HP.
And welcome to the forum!

| Oh... I thought that 15HP will be the minimum power required for creating usable and practical wehicle. That changes a lot, because there are many cheap offers within 10 - 12 HP range and just a few (and more expensive) within 17 - ... HP range. Options near me at the moment: - 17 HP Briggs on a funky mower, 330 USD (seller says engine and transition is good). - 12 HP Briggs, Western mower, 500 USD - 15.5 HP Briggs, Murray, 600 USD - 12 HP Briggs, Jonsered, 720 USD - 20 HP 2 stroke MTD, 800 USD Recommendations? I thing the right way would be to buy the first option. Its cheap, "open for changes" – ready for real redneck tuning in all ways | |

| The one pictured is an mtd. I would stay away as a first build, they just require so much work to be durable | |

| I believe your best bet is either the Jonsered or the Murray, that is, if they aren't hydrostatic. | |

| It's really hard to say a tractor is good just on the make and the engine horsepower, there's much much more that factors in.
Although I have to say a 20 horse MTD 2 stroke is something I've never heard of.
