Hey guys. Heres my littl build off entry. (My sharpy died while writing out my entry). If a different pic is required let me know. Hard to setup photo shoots in my garage.
It's a cub cadet 100 Garden tractor (1963 / 1st gen) Simple Kohler k241AS. 3 speed trans with reverse. Shaft driven.
My main goal is to reduce the overall size by a 1ft at minimum upto about 3ft and make it a real mini machine for pulling, tugging and dragging.
Here's what I'm planning so far:
Locking rear end with another sprocket/weld. Reduce the shaft size to accommodate shorter frame. Add weight panels along the bottom (hidden). Bore out cylinder 20/30 over.(if I can find a good machine shop). Custom cam grind. Move the steering from it's current location to over the top of the engine. Build a winch bracket and mount system for front and rear. 3d print velocity stack/k&n air filter adapter. Widen the rear to accommodate some AG tires. Union jack flag on gb Green paint scheme.
If I have the funds maybe change it from coil pack points to a magneto ignition / speedunio build.
Looking forward to building something with all of you

Here's a few more pics of what I'm starting with and what I accomplished today.
Starting point: Non running, points corroded, rear rims rusted and filled with water, Then froze to make it look inflated. Plow rust welded to frame.
Today I went and removed the engine from frame. Evicted a few freeloaders. Made a puller block for the flywheel:
tapped some nice threads into the flywheel.
Drilled out a few holes in an old chevy scissor jack ratchet.
After welding a nut to it, went a head and cranked down on the bolt(i did round the end off to save the crank threads) and sheered it off. - ignore the battery terminal bolts. they fit.
Went with the old fashioned prybar behind the flywheel, thread in crank bolt and crack it good with a hammer.
End result is flywheel removed as the temp in my garage dropped to 11f.

Welcome to the party! Sounds like a cool build but I'm awful conflicted about watching a rare old tractor get cut up...

Double post incoming. Any Kohler guys in here? Briggs guy myself and this Kohler is having an identity crisis. It's a k241as as stated above. Bore and stroke is a 241as but block is a k301. Here's the stamp behind the pto plate.

Me three. Same decision making going on here.
I think your engine is confused and identifies as a Briggs. Maybe some counseling…

For all those wondering and or conflicted. It's been on the market for 3 months for a reasonable price. No one claimed it and I even included a plow . If cutting the frame will hurt a few peoples hearts I may find another frame to adapt.

My thought is if you own it you can do as you please with it. If it is truly rare or worth a lot then people would be knocking your door down trying to buy it.
I like your project plan and would like to see it get done.

I appreciate that fatmike. Hoping to get some firewood here soon and stack the wood stove for some more tinkering. Looking at ordering a k301 piston and ring set from Stens. Along with a k301 cam if it will fit. Haven't looked at the cam spec sheets. May make all new gaskets for the block with 2mm cork sheets.

I agree with ‘it is yours to do with as you please’. If someone doesn’t like it they can read and look at something else. Most of these old machines get scrapped. We do cool things with them and can enjoy knowing that they can live on in some form.

Exactly......far better to do something with them than to let them rust for decades and then get scrapped.

No real updates but finding new information on the k241as Kohler. Kohler used a k301 block for a few 100 k241. They bored out the k301 blocks to fit the k241 piston. To make it a real 12hp, I'd need a new crank, con rod, piston and cam. I'm most likely going to over bore it to a k301 piston (at home) and grind my cam (it's scored up pretty good on the high and low spots) Leaving the rest alone.
Looking at Stens for head gasket and random Amazon guy for a piston and rings. I took the hood apart and removed the stickers with a heat gun in prep for citrus strip.
I did manage to get a hernia lifting and dragging a zero turn I sold. Taking it a little easier until I get some insurance.

That's interesting info, thanks for sharing! I prefer Stens parts to Oregon, generally cheaper and seems better quality to me.
