I have a question I have always had grease in my transaxles but is gear oil better? what should I run this will be for mud. Transaxle is a mst-205-544c comes stock with gear oil and I will have a 25hp V-twin ohv briggs with some 20X10.0-8 4 PLY SUPER LUG carlisle. if I should run gear oil what should I use?

Something along the lines of 80w90, 75w90, or 75w140n depending on where you live and how cold it gets.

For what its worth, we run gear oil in all of our racing machines' trannys. I believe 80w. It serves well enough whether we are blasting through snow drifts or screaming along in the 90+ degree heat. I don't think any failures we have had were due to the oil.

We do... I guess it depends on how hot you're going to get the transmission and how offensive you find oil seeping out of the various seals etc.
