How do you make an auto transacle go faster,
Not sure how because it already has a small pulley on it and it goes like 5mph at most. Help?

Auto? Do you mean hydro? Can't really speed one up unless you play with internal gears. One I have uses planetary gearsets, which are stupid complicated to figure out ratios for.

Only other way is to mount another axle, and drive it with the hydro. Then you could change the ratios.

I accidentally sped up a hydro on my zero turn. Reduction gears were broke, so I bought another transmission out of a regular tractor. Gears were not the same ratio, and I ended up with a zero turn that was twice as fast.

I may not know everything about mower's, but never seen an automatic. Hydro, or MTD vari-speed is only thing I can think of, and neither are well suited to modifying. I'm sure someone has speed up the MTD vari drives, just a pain is all.

This is an excellent read on the types of transmissions and transaxles you will find today - if it's a true automatic it's most likely a CVT. Still, worth a read:

"Converter"? Please explain.

Yeah- I really want to know what this is, too. If it's not a Hydro or a vari-drive, then it must be REALLY new! To the OP- please post pics of your mower.

It is probably a hydrostatic, and on the shifter on the fenders it says automatic. you can't pulley swap them, the hydraulic motor will burn out. The only way is to put bigger tires on it.

It would be possible to run a sprocket from the original axle to a separate axle

no doubt its a hydro. the odd shape is due to the hydraulic pump in it. pulley swap the engine and you can get somewhere around 10 mph and bigger tires but you will probably burn it up. hydro's arent ment to take the strain like gears

Ok I did a bad job at explaining this. What I mean by converter I'm mean like a transaxle go from the motor to a pulley that is linked with a smaller pulley so that it give you even more speed. This is what I was going to do on my hydro.
