PostSubject: Re: Utility MX   Utility MX - Page 5 Icon_minitimeSeptember 8th 2015, 6:29 am

Now I have enough good working throttle.
http://aijaa.com/9fvoOf
Utility MX - Page 5 13958929 Aijaa.com

I can change gears from the lever.
http://aijaa.com/zODFJe
Utility MX - Page 5 13958930 Aijaa.com

Engine shut down switch is ready. Maybe I can test drive even this week? Some bolts need to be installed. I will make some cover over the carburetor and then I think this should be ready for test drive. For some reason there is bit of traction even pedal is at floor but maybe it will fix automatically during test drives. If not then I will figure out something. Most likely the belts are too short? I just picked up some belts that I have at my garage.

As usual when everything is almost ready rush is on and quality migh be not so nice but is it so that these fastly made issues can be done better at some day later Very Happy

Test drive done. Engine was running badly and some traction was on all time. I managed to drive forward and reverse left and right so good enough for now. Next I will make some improvements. It seems that nothing needs to be done again. Seat is too close to steering wheel but seat modification is not on top of to list.

Intake ready for painting. I placed the filter under the seat so it has some rain cover. I will also bolt some "hood" over the filter cutted from some plastic bottle or something. I have used some car cooling system tubes and also exhaust pipes and Yardman frame and and... after some time it looks like this.

http://aijaa.com/kr9TQN
Utility MX - Page 5 13974370.t

I have also cutted some space to the frame so that carburetor is able to remove easily. Next I will open the carburetor and hope to get better running engine for the next test drive.

Test drive number 2 done. Engine was running well and ones the other wheel was even spinning Smile not on the tarmac though.

Front wheel can be lifted at least 25" before rear wheel rises. Maybe I need to limit the tilting?

Temperary shifter weldings didn´t last so driving ended.

Next I will start making the skid plate for the rear axle. Then some painting and real test drive at some forest.

I took the engine out and because of the weld nuts and small engine it takes only about 5 minutes

Rear skid plate was on the list next. I made the round shape from kids bicycle rim.

This is going to bolted for easy access to the belts and rear axle. I will add one plate so that there is not any gaps between this plate and frame.

Plan was to use white and red but because of timetable issues I desided to use workplace paint shop. There is only one colour available and it is black. It took only half an hour to paint all parts. So one lunch break job.

http://aijaa.com/T2zOaA
Utility MX - Page 5 14026802.t

I will add Silver to the hood and that´s it.

When I had rear axle at my hands I noticed that one important this has not been done = Brakes. Well I will add some rod to the varidrive rod somehow Very Happy one pedal should be enough.

Until next time ..........

I have worked with brake issues and now tractor should have brakes. After testings some modifications might be needed but now it is bolt on and next issues. Here is photo about the system.

http://aijaa.com/Rg2C0J
Utility MX - Page 5 14035191.t

I welded short tube to the varidrive lever. Dimension should be so that brake rod is pulled only when pedal is pressed almost to floor. I welded an bolt to end of the rod so that there is some adjustment available. There is also one guide tube welded under the frame. This tube should control so that the rod is not between the belts and pulleys  Very Happy

Seat position adjustments has also started. This new position should give a bit more space to drive.

I found an warranty sticker under the seat and I am not happy about it so I will modify also that some day later Question

Not really Very Happy seat modification is now ready for painting.

Next issue is to figure out correct belt lenghts. Plan is to use ropes and adjust the lenghts with hose clamps. After I have better guess about the lenghts then I will buy new belts and most likely correct ones at once Very Happy

I tryed to figure out the belt lenghts but I need to buy longer belt and after test drive I know is it correct or not. This varidrive system is too complicated to my brains Very Happy

If everything goes as movies I will have true test drive before Christmas. If this works I will make big enough Christmas package and push this under the tree lol!

I will study about the Youtube so maybe some video will be published.

All wiring done ( totally 6 wires and 2 switches but done anyway). Also front light is working with small 12V scooter battery.

Engine bolted and caples attached. Different and hopefully better belt is installed. Engine should be at running condition and tractor should move if I just add some gasoline.

Some work still to do but not so much:
- tow hitch brackets need to weld to the rear skid plate. So rear skid plate is not bolted yet.
- tow hitch has to make from some road car parts that I have
- wheels are not completely bolted. I need to find more car wheel nuts. I use those to cenralize the wheel to the custom made hubs
- some other issues that I do not know or remember Idea

I found suitable box for this Christmas present so now I just need to find big enough three and wait for the Santa Claus santa

Now I had some time to focus on this tractor. After the carburetor was opened two times and pull start repaired also two times I was able to even drive  Smile I am clad that I made groove to the frame at carburetor area.

http://aijaa.com/ggQWqt
Utility MX - Page 5 14061622.t

First modification need to the custom steering is now needed. When the axle is tilted the steering arm can rotate 360 degrees. I need to add stopper also to the triangle shape frame. Now the stopper at the front axle are not limiting enough.

http://aijaa.com/xiDyBL
Utility MX - Page 5 14061623.t

Luckily pull start was able turn facing back.
http://aijaa.com/FKDRzl
Utility MX - Page 5 14061624.t

This tractor definately needs diff lock. Maybe some day I have learn how to do it.

Hello all. No progress on this tractor area due to the quite cold weather ( from the beginning of this year to last week we had more than -20°C all time) and some other urgent issues. Now weather is lot warmer and maybe I have some hobby time this weekend.

Anyway I have some progress with the Youtube. I think that I have everything ready to post video afro

I have only old computer so I will try to work with phone. If everything goes as plan you might see some video next week of week after that or after x perioid of time Very Happy

This might be the after x period of time but here should be two video links

https://youtu.be/8JDCkrJRBNU

https://youtu.be/BTW39ZhD90A

As you can notice some fine tuning is needed. Belt tensioner spring got loose so tractor stopped. Easy to repair no problem. Gear shifting is hard because of wrong belt lenghts or some other unknown reason. Acceleration should be easier to use. I think that both rear tires should rotate all time.

Anyway it was fun to drive and it is ready for next drive.

New year with new inspiration. It took lot of time before I managed to repair this tractor but now it is running again. The rear axle bracket bended after driving at rock section. So after that rear axle pulley was not at line with other pulleys.

Now it is running and latest modification was a bit better gas lever. Not final but it is working.

Hello all,

This tractor have been out of usage about two years. This year my oldest son tryed to get it run but there was some issues with the ice between piston and cylinder head.

So Honda out and something else in. This time we will try how should 110cc chinese atv engine work. This might be slow build but maybe some day we can drive this thing.

https://aijaa.com/LhWUz6
https://aijaa.com/8ZAg6U
https://aijaa.com/XliTFU

We will do it something like pictures above. I would like to make chain driven portal axle but I have limited amount of time. So original rear axle will be used this time.

Maybe ready before 2022.

Rear axle is now welded with some unfinished brackets. More supports must be done.

https://aijaa.com/5EGuBK

https://aijaa.com/Dc7kCG

Next I will calculate what sprockets should I use between atv engine and rear axle. Have someone done this kind of desing? What sprokets have been used and what was the top speed?

I had couple of hours time for this project. I welded engine support desing number 1 with chain tensioner. Plan is to tilt the engine. Next I will try to get the engine running so that I see how the chain stays and is the ratio correct. Now there is 15 teeth at the engine and 8 at rear axle.

https://aijaa.com/DOJDxk

https://aijaa.com/tIFMfv

This is getting ready faster than I assumed. Of cource gear linkage for excample takes some time and so on.
