Transaxle - Make a Hi/Low Transaxle from a Regular One? Empty
PostSubject: Make a Hi/Low Transaxle from a Regular One?   Transaxle - Make a Hi/Low Transaxle from a Regular One? Icon_minitimeMarch 8th 2015, 11:06 am

Need some ideas here. I'd like to take a typical 5/6-speed Peerless transaxle from a light-duty tractor, and add a high/low shifter. This would give me 10/12 forward speeds. Is there some way to do this?

Trans. has input pulley on top like this.

Only way I see this happening reasonably is putting a 2 speed gear box before it with like 1:1 and 2:1 ratios or the like.

I concur. Which... Is why I am doing exactly that. There's no way you can do this with a single range tranny without extensive machining.

gotta be careful doing so because your input torque is going to go up in the low range so if you start pulling hard could blow the tranny

What about a dual belt setup with two clutches. You'd have to have some way to lock out the one you aren't using and two pedals I guess. Or, lets say you usually use the high range. Could have a clutch pedal for that belt and a lever for super low gear, depending on how you wanted to use it.

That is a doable option. Its been tried a few times in the go kart world with success. Same would apply here.
