because you did it wrong, or you had a more worn out tranny/weaker one , or you just beat it too much thats why it broke

Strongest setup would be a 1" - 1 1/4" straight rear axle - youd either need a peerless 700 or a right angle gearbox to properly set it up.

how did i do it wrong i welded the gears together just like a car an it worked fine before shit just wont hold with 20ich tractor treads

Could also swap in one of the larger transaxles with 1"shafts, like a peerless 820. Wish I could find one of those for under $100.
***EDIT: The peerless 930 is not a 1" axled transaxle like I thought.***

As for holding up to 20" tires, check out Feerlessfront's videos, I think he runs 22's on a welded diff. I would suggest pulling the transaxle apart and taking pics. I'm sure we could diagnose what actually caused the problem then. There are a lot of factors like the others have mentioned. It could be anything from shock loading to a stress fracture already in one of the components.

what i mean by wrong is you could have welded the gears and a piece of slag could have got in the tranny, or the gears were off a little bit, or a weld failed, mower trannys arent made for wheelys bud, use your quad for wheelys, the trannys are made of cast aluminum, mostly steel gears and brass and steel bushings, which is another reason it could fail a bushing could have worn out, you could have got one of the trannys without steel gears in it, or there could have been a week point in the case. if you want wheelys go out and get a peerless 820 mower tranny it has bearings instead of brass bushings and bigger gears and 1 inch axles, im not saying they are bullet proof, but they are more strong than the 3/4 inch axle trannys

i was in a real hard dig first 6th went out then it went right down the line besides reverse then while backing it to the barn it busted the casein this has happened twice to me both with my tractors in that hard dig

your breaking gears, your really not gonna get past that, unless you get a bigger beefier tranny wich doesnt guarantee your gonna be able to do wheelys still

ive heard they were suposed to be decently strong, im not sure if its true or not i havent had the chance to own one and im going on about 7 trannys that ive broken, and my buddy has broken atleast 20 so they just dont take the abuse

its not your tires that did it, i had 25 inch tall bear claws 12.5 inches wide with a welded diff what screwed mine was a piece of the weld got loose (slag i think it was) and got stuck between the ring gear at the housing and the back of the housing broke to releive the stress

Ive busted 3 trannys trying to lock the rear end so im done for now but i would appreciate some advice cause its a little harry riding at 55 mph with out good breaks. (aka locked rearend)

I have busted gears in the old 3 speed before most of you were even born. And that was just with a 3X speed upgrade. real bad about popping out of gear too.

The RAGB could work but the good ones are expen$ive. Cheap ones will have brass gears. Single speed and no reverse. Might work on a short circle track but not on the trail

My murray was an unlocked trans - i had it over 35mph ( too much to handle any faster, it had more gears and more throttle) - i imagine if i solid welded/bolted the front axle it wouldve handled better - along with a simple lower seating position ( too top heavy) it wouldve handled whole bunches easier- but theres no subsitute for good brakes - in a panic situation you might as well expect a ER visit.

Even at around 35mph , you still need a whole lot of stopping room.
