**Immediately starts thinking about how a certain person just used an angle grinder grinding down welds on a frame all week with the strings hanging out hitting the wheel several times while grinding**

I’m definitely not guilty of this Happy2 Happy2

LOL yesterday close to this time, 64.  Today, still 20 and 4 inches snow so far.  If it were bigger wetter flakes, it would be prob closer to 8-10.  Thankfully the snow didn't start till 4pm and appears to be a smaller dryer snow.

I feel like I've been away for a month plowing out that snow storm, thankfully it wasn't as much snow as forecasted but it just lingered on and on. Blew out reverse in my assigned truck, no big surprise it is a piece of junk, so on monday I get to drop the plow and empty the salt spreader so they can take it too the trans shop LOL, truck isn't worth the air in the tires but the school district wants to spend my tax money on it anyway.

I'm looking forward to spring.

Any of you out there know stuff about real horses?
We have a conveyor at work that has been burning out 1 HP motors.
It doesn't lift anywhere near 550 Ft-lbs/sec because that only lifts its load 3 feet, give or take.
I calculate 550 ft-lbs /second would lift a ton 1 foot in about 4 seconds, and if the total height rise were 3 ft then 1 hp could be moving a ton up 3 feet every 12 seconds.
There's no way or conveyor does that much. The 1 hp motor should last forever.
But it got me thinking, how long does it take a 550 lb horse to go up a 60 foot hill?
Or maybe, what is the time for an 1100 lb horse to go up a 30 foot hill?
Does 1 minute sound right?

Maybe not the most relevant to your question but I do know that most breeds of horses are only .7 horsepower. Hope that helps

About 40 something years ago when a guy pedaked the first human powered airplane (Gossamere Condor if I remember right) they said an athletic human could produce 0.6 hp for a while.
It's not a big deal, I am just curious about real horse "power". My original thoughts with the conveyor was that it must have a mechanical problem if the motor figures to be plenty powerful enough.
The human factor is we have lots of motors and they're easy to change, but conveyor parts are mysterious in origin with no spares handy... ok too much information.

The 1 hp motor is probably about one tenth HP. You know that most shop vacs have 20 HP according to they way that motors are rated.

I would say it has more to do with the gearing, if it's too tall that would shred your motor no problem.

Does the conveyor have a brake or anti roll back system to keep the load from going back down if it is turned off.
Does anyone service the rest of the conveyor, grease and or oil it and check conveyor tension.
Does it have a worm gear  gearbox.
With the motor disconnected can you rotate the gearbox by hand to move to conveyor.

As a last resort get a treadmill made for horses and get a fit average horse and hook it up to the conveyor and just see how long that horse can move that conveyor with the treadmill.
Take some video we'll all want to watch it.

It's old, it has stuff, right angle drive, maybe a mechanical speed adjustment.
220 volt single phase.
I shouldn't mess with it unless it's broken.
It's like a roof leak, can't fix it when it's raining, and when it's not raining it doesn't leak.

We got about 10” this last week, most of the roads are clear by now but my girlfriends neighborhood hasn’t been touched. Solid D- on their plowing effort. They came through once while it was still coming down.

Back to general tractor topics….I forgot to mention I have a turbo tractor in the works…I’d like to get about 80-90 hp out of it. Any guesses as to which tractor will be getting boosted? (It’s been seen on the forum before)

The MK1 (OG CraftsmanQuad) will be getting a revamp as well, with a big block vanguard, craftsman second gen steering box, fresh sheet metal, 6 speed 820, and 25 inch maxxis mud bugs. Should wind up something like @redzz02’s mud dynamark.

The MK2 is getting new 4 lug front wheels, and hubs to match. The 3 lug wheels are just so weak. I figure more attachment points will equal less stress per lug. And the spindles will be getting drilled and tapped for a grade 8 bolt. That should keep the front end together for the duration of the trip. I installed my stronger lower spindle tabs last year and found the spindles to be the weak point. Hopefully this will fix that. I also need to replace the starter solenoid again. Replaced it at haspin last year with an OE briggs solenoid and it was dead before the end of the ride. Only started on it twice.

Anyone have any ideas for upgraded solenoids? Thought maybe a tractor solenoid but @stretch44875 said there’s not much difference in longevity between them and a mower solenoid. Is there any particular brand of starter solenoid that seems to hold up the best?

Same thing with the county roads where I am…though it isn’t their fault. Apparently the highway dept. budget is so undersized they can’t even hire people to replace the ones retiring. So the roads are usually covered in an inch of slush cause there’s not enough manpower to run the trucks. I’ve come down the hill diagonally before which was…fun Laughing

And I’m wondering if maybe there’s a wiring issue at play? Seems odd for a solenoid to die so soon. I’m no expert though.

@CraftsmanQuad19 the strongest, most durable and surprisingly (one of the) cheapest to be found are the fender mount Ford units (from older cars/trucks), they're 4 post and ridiculously easy to figure out!

And I’m wondering if maybe there’s a wiring issue at play? Seems odd for a solenoid to die so soon. I’m no expert though.

If the solenoid he bought wasn’t just simply defective than 100% a wiring issue. I buy solenoids from literally anywhere for 15 bucks and they always last. Ole Blue still has the OG solenoid. The MM has the solenoid that I put in it in the 2019 BO and I don’t plan on changing it.

No way a solenoid will only last two starts. Had to be either defective or is due to a wiring issue like was mentioned.

It was also suggested it could be high resistance in the starter. I have no idea what the specified resistance even is to check

i have been playing in the ice and snow a bit got side ways in my 4wd truck in snow it was fun. and i went drifting on the ice with the build off tractor ive been thoroughly testing it and got some goodies for it today after school and then more bashing lol. so far this is the toughest and funnest tractor ive had. also it needs shocks on the front or some kind of anti roll bar that still lets it travel but not at speed LOL. i went around a corner and almost rolled it at 20mph
