Got an old beast last week .Transaxle is rusted up but i think once i get it open it will be easily fixed or so i hope . if any of y'all know about them i need info . there is no model numbers on the mower ,only on the transaxle . it has a kohler 12hp cast single , and a peerless/tecumseh 2301A 005008. thats all i know about it . Those 12hp (K301) Kohlers are great engines! And that 2300 series Peerless should be a tough old gearbox as well. I don't know what model that tractor is, but I imagine it's pretty stout.

Took out the transmission and discover significant rust inside . Trying to find replacement gears . If i can get them its going to be Doc locked and reassembled .Thinking about making it a mudder or pulling tractor. The Kohler runs very well and seems to be very durable.

Nice old Toro! What way does the drive train work on it? Shaft driven?

It is shaft driven to a right angle gear box which belt drives the transaxle .The clutch is on the pulleys that connect the engine to the shaft.I like how very easy it is to work on that way !

Cool! That drive train setup with the shaft to gear box to belt to transaxle sounds just like an Allis-Chalmers 700/900 series garden tractor. It's a great setup!

Sounds good. The right axle gear box (RAGB) may be the weak link though.

Originally these were sold as Springfield by quick manufacturing but in 1966 they sold their operations to Toro.
