I don’t know much in that direction. I’m planning on going to Blue Holler off-road park sooner or later, but I think that’s a bit of a haul from you.

Glad to report back that it was a success! Ripped it down some trails, did a little crawlin, and even flipped her over. It was truly exhilarating, and 15-20 mph down a rocky dirt path on a tractor is just about the sweet spot for me. I definitely would've liked liked to mud it up more, but it was still a fantastic time. I think its finally ready to get dirty! Img_2022

Do you guys have any suggestions on seat dampening for this thing? The "spring" does a pretty good job of absorbing shock, but it also kind of acts like a catapult lol.

Im hooked and I cant wait til the next ride!

This is going to sound crazy but hear me out....  gas charged struts for vehicle hoods/hatches/trunks, they come in a variety of different lengths and strengths and because they have ball joints on the ends the articulation of the seat shouldn't be a problem if you plan it out well!

Heck I might even give this a try on my one tractors, I had to put valve springs on the mounting bolts to keep myself from flipping backwards off the seat but it's still saggy and now extra bouncy! Lol

On my tractor, the catapulting action from the seat is geometry of seat to rear axle pivot.  My Red murray has more catapult action than my sears that has a spring like yours.  My worst is my Blue murray Kal.  First outing with it, I was thrown off the seat into the air about 2 feet and it doesn't even have a seat spring.

That may be something you get used to the more you ride.

Thanks for the ideas! I just bought a pair of 7 inch 70 pound gas shocks with ball joints. Gonna weld up some mounts and give it a go! I will report back and post some pics.

I hope it works out well, I have a feeling that it should and was going to do it myself today to find out as I have a few kicking around but got too busy. The foam in the seat is really prone to lighting up and smoldering so do yourself a favor and drill a small hole in the area you're going to weld each mount to so you can get the foam in that area nice and wet. Trust me when I say it's not fun to try and put it out after the fact! Lol.

Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on your outlook, somewhere along its 50 years of lawn service the original owner replaced the seat with what appears to be a fiberglass chair (from a school desk maybe?) mounted on a steel plate. I can tell you those carriage bolts, though low profile, still wrecked my butt after about 30 minutes. I also bought a cheap chair pad to put between the chair and my seat cover. Great advice on the foam padding just unfortunate for my butt that it doesn't have any...

Well guys I'm excited to report that the gas shocks were a success! Drilled out the seat mount plate and welded some bed frame angle iron for the bottom mounts. It definitely took the flop out of the seat, so when I sit down it doesn't automatically recline and bounce now. The 70 pound shocks ended up being perfect for me (230 lbs.), and they were 13 bucks on amazon. Thanks for the tips! You guys rock! Can't wait to get back out on the trail!

Wicked! That was totally a off the top of my head idea and couldn't think of anything else, glad they're working as I'd hoped! Does it feel kind of like one of those suspension seats now?

I have not had the pleasure of trying out a suspension seat, but I really like the fact that it doesn't roll side to side anymore. It feels like it's on a hinge now. Fantastic mod!
