Now that you have that crank out you better get it turned down.

Okay so I'm sick and tired of screwing with these engines and not getting anyway.  I also just realized that I was wrong and the yanmar actually turns the wrong way, go figure.

Anyway, I decided that in order to get this thing moving and finish the build off, I just decided to go the Harbor Freight and buy a 212 for $96.  I think it will do decent in this build, I plan to do some very minor mods to it as well.  It actually is the same HP rating as the yanmar as well.

Fits in the engine with lots of room to spare.

Sounds really nice with a straight pipe, going to do a stack with a rain cap on top.

Right now, all I need is to finish bolting the engine down, bolt the gas tank back in, get an engine pulley, get the 2 belts I need, and tires, and this thing will run and drive!  Super excited.

Heh, hate to say I told you so, but...... lol!

That's too bad man. Really though you could run a pulley off the flywheel to get the direction right. I know you said you thought that'd ruin the look, but it's better than letting it go to waste. Either way at least you can get it going now. What mods do you have planned for the Predator?

Well, it's kinda strange, the Yanmar turns clockwise, which is the direction the tires would have to go to go forward.  But when I got the predator, it turns counterclockwise, and I was all mad cuz it wasn't going to work.  Then I put the trans in forward, turn the pulley counterclockwise, and the axle turned clockwise.  I put it in a different forward gear and tried it again, and it turned clockwise.  Then I put it in reverse and turn the input counterclockwise and the axles turn counterclockwise.  So basically the trans seems to, like, reverse everything...it's quite odd.  Anyway, I'm thinking of hooking it up to a go-kart or a 4 wheeler or something, so it won't go to waste.

Probably a carb, it already has a straight pipe, clear valve cover cuz they're cheap and look cool lol, and probably an aftermarket intake.

Oh, and I do have the "HEMI" edition!  The only difference is appearance, but oh well, now I can make fun of those stupid Dodges lol.

Trying to decide pulley ratio.  With a 3" front pulley and an 8" rear, with the vari-drive, the top speed would be 8 mph.  But in the lowest position at full throttle, it would go 0.02 mph.  With an 8" front and 8" rear, it'd go 18, and still probably have quite the low-end speed. Thoughts?

Nice, some have issue with predators or other clones... I for one, am not one of those people. I re-powered my Sears Suburban with a clone and have been happy since. The old Tecumseh was 16hp but my 13hp seems to have more power. I rather enjoy the new engines. Good luck with the rest of your build. Time is starting to slip by! Smile

My vote is for 7" engine and 8" trans.  I would just get a jet kit for the carb you have or open the jet up a tiny bit at a time if you have the drills for that.  Wheel horses a set up that way where the engine turns the opposite direction of the tires in forward.

He should put a Kohler back together for it. They're not hard engines to work on....

I'm probably going for that size pulley, should be reasonably fast with the vari-drive.

I don't have a junk yard near me, and anyway, I don't really care if this engine is American made or not.

Are you kidding me?  I mean, they're not hard to work on, but POINTS IGNITION.  Seriously.  You have to have a battery to run this engine.  This is 2018, not 1950.  The price of the battery and alternator alone would be the price of the Predator.

Not all breaker points ignition engines are 12v ignition actually. Just wanted to put that out there.

Pity about the Kohler and diesel, but a Predator should at least get it driving to get it qualified for the build off.

Everyone knows what each of you would do.  It's his tractor, if he wants a predator... He can have a predator.  He wants an armadillo in a treadwheel, he can have an armadillo in a treadwheel.  He wants to finish before the build-off ends.  I can understand.  If he wants to go back and work on one of those old motors at his own pace... he can.

Lets keep the topic headed forward and not get into the "I would have.." "Keep the Kohler..." again.

Thank you! build - [Complete] John Deere 110 "Sub-Compact Tractor" Build [2018 Build-Off Entry] - Page 13 2731072446

LOL, armadillo in a treadmill.  Good idea!  Shame the last armadillo south of Lampasas got put in the ground by a certain redneck with a shotgun....

Had to do some clearancing to get the 6" pulley to fit.

Pulley in place.

6" was the biggest they had with a 3/4 inner diameter, and anyway, with lower hp, I probably should go with a smaller pulley anyway.  The rear trans pulley has to come off before I can put the belt on because idiots exist in the world.  The front belt was a complete guestimate, and was way off cuz I'm stoopid.

Yep. $23.99

Looking good. What size of rear pulley are you using?

Thanks!  Stock 8"x5/8"s.

Drilled the holes for the engine.

Got the engine and gas tank bolted in and in place:

Getting excited! Next, I'll probably put the hood on.

Thanks!  Yeah, it is, oh well.  Thanks!

So I got the wrong size front belt AGAIN because I'm stoopid.   build - [Complete] John Deere 110 "Sub-Compact Tractor" Build [2018 Build-Off Entry] - Page 13 2429134702 build - [Complete] John Deere 110 "Sub-Compact Tractor" Build [2018 Build-Off Entry] - Page 13 2429134702 build - [Complete] John Deere 110 "Sub-Compact Tractor" Build [2018 Build-Off Entry] - Page 13 2429134702

Meantime, I got the hood, grill, and battery tray in place.

Cleaned up a little bit of the rust.

Bolted it in.

And put a Craftsman battery box in place.  This will be for storage, because I'm tired of having to have whatever it is I'm bringing sitting on my lap, lol.

There is no electric start or charging system on this engine, which is my only regret.  I do plan to run lights, phone charger, rear linear actuated sleeve hitch, heated seats, GPS, naw just kidding, but I do plan to run a lot of things.  So I would need at least an alternator, but I figure maybe a starter generator would be best.  Google says they're all at least $100, so we'll see what I can come up with.

I like it man, good choice with the predator, Ive got three and they all run great, look into a more open exhaust and look up how to drill out the jet, theres lots of threads on how to do it on gokart forums and it will make more power, these things are jetted so lean from the factory to pass epa emissions. opening up the jet really livens them up. these also may have a lighting kit made for em, Ill look around for ya

Thanks!  Yeah, the exhaust comes out in 1/2", then it's going to go to 3/4", then to 1", then to a rain cap.  No restrictions whatsoever, sounds like a muscle car, although it's still rather quiet.

I will certainly look into drilling the jet, I don't really want to do anything too crazy with this engine (being brand new I don't want to blow it up), but I do want a bit more power out of it.

Doncha gotta love the EPA.  Environmental Pestilence Agency.

Thanks!

so there is the video i saw before, unfortunalty it seems the correct flywheel for the new hemis is this kohler one part number 1702501-S which is 60 dollars new plus around 20 for the charging coils, so thats almost what you have in the motor already unless you could find a used flywheel that has the inner magnets.

Good idea with the storage box. You could probably pick up a second hand cheap alternator from a car or something on ebay or at a car/tractor show. Then just put second pulley on the crank and run a belt to it. Mr Modified did than on a his Baja Sears and Simplicity Adventure.

Thanks!  Yeah, I think I'd rather go with a starter generator, one is like $60 used.

Yeah, but I'd rather have a starter generator.  Having lots of fancy electric things and no electric start is a little strange.

I don't like that you put now a crappy Predator into the beautiful JD, but it's your Project, and your choice. I'm excited how it will perform. AFAIK U can get a charging system for those chinese engines, and electric starter too.

I don't think it's crappy, it has a good amount of torque and revs up real high.  Thanks!

Everything is ready to go...except tires.   Evil or Very Mad

Still not sure what I should go for.  26" ags, or 25" Executioners?  I'm leaning ags....

I think you should get the cheap execs like RockyDA. What are you planning for the electrical system?
