| Looks like something for the charging system. A resister or diode of some kind? | |

I thought so I think it is a rectifier, my guess is the battery wont charge without it hooked up

| my LT 160 has a very similar motor with that same rectifier. Let me know how you hook back up and if it works or not because I want to rewire my LT 160 at some point . | |

I have a simplicity 12.5 LTH and a GT 5000 for personal mowers, but people love these green craftsmans, and I have two more.... so 3 different LTs hanging around at the moment, one I havent picked up but I bought it..... Anyway I bought some 18x6.5-8 snow tires today for the GT because I wanted some skinny taller tires for it, because I mow mostly taller grass with it, and it is bumpy in the fields around our fence..... No problems with the steering or turning radius since it turn pretty wide anyway....

| blah blah blah so I started up one of my LT1000s and I got oil burping out of the breather valve.. what do you think that means? I assume either its over full or the breather is not working right? | |

| Yeah it was smoking a little bit, then I noticed stuff burping out the breather valve, then a smoke show for all the ages happened when oil got in the carb. It looked like a bomb went off in my garage & I had to go outside for 1/2 hr...
The tractor was running fine prior to this for about a min, but it was smoking a little. Also when I brought it home I changed the oil real quick and it was full of gas. I think I may have overfilled it a hair & possibly caused this, I will disassemble the carb & breather later & change the oil again before I pull the head.

| Gas in the oil.. when you take the carb apart. Make sure the needle and seat are sealing properly. | |

| So short story, I tore the carb back down, changed the oil again, checked the breather etc.... Started the engine back up without the air filter...let it run a bit, it was running fine, but a little bit of white smoke.... I put the air filter on for 2 seconds and oil started shooting up thru the breather again..... So I cant think of what to do other than to pull the head? | |

| There's nothing out of tehe ordinary about oil in the pushrod galley. Oil needs to get to the head somehow.
That head gasket looks very suspicious in the typical area where it blows. I don't see any signs of trouble on the block or head.
That's a brand new plug? Did you just put that in? What did the old one look like?

That's a brand new plug? Did you just put that in? What did the old one look like? yeah i just changed it after oil exploded the first time... The only thing i can say is there was oil under the gasket in the place between the cyl and push rod galley, not blown but didnt seem right...thats why I said loose. Im just questioning it because i am trying to figure out how the oil actually gets up to the breather.

| Maybe you could have gotten away with just re-torquing the head but head gaskets are cheap anyway and kinda fun to do. | |

hah i got two with blown head gaskets, and one with the trans stuck in 2nd gear.... I have a spare transaxle from a grey craftsman it looks to me like they all have the shift lever on the same spot on the trans, just sometimes the gear selector is between your legs or on the fender... hope it works...
