Not too much today. I did install the locked mst206 into Bowser. I also looked into the oil leaks on the engine.
First, I was in total disbelief the wheels came right off the old mst205 with absolutely NO fight. First ever for me.
mst206 installed.
I did some detective work on the engine. I have decided at this point not to replace the sump gasket. It appears to be intact, BUT the sump bolts were all loose but 1. I torqued them down as well as the head bolts. I did find a burr on the one head that was allowing an oil leak from that valve cover. That was filed down and fixed. I'll refill the oil and see what happens. First I need to go grab a pipe to replace that oil valve. I hate that thing.

Got my idler to keep the belt off the shifter and the vent hose installed yesterday. I repacked the metal idler bearing. It seams fine, but I may replace later. I do plan on replacing the plastic clutch pulley with a metal one as soon as I can find the insert to bring it to the right bore.
This morning I cleaned and scuffed up the rear fenders. Then I sprayed it with primer. This evening I gave it the yellow paint.
Once I get the pulleys situated, I'll put the fender pan back on. Time for it to come together.

Thanks, that last shot looked more tan, but that is just because of the sunset. She's still a little rough around the edges, but looks much nicer. I'm going to let it sunbake today.

Engine is now sitting on the frame and bolted down. Metal clutch pulley also installed.
I also have be replacement bronze bearings, grease zerk and engine pulley. The engine pulley still needs welded.
Had a little issue with the steering tower. Small patch on the bottom edge had a little orange peel on the second coat of paint today. I should be able to sand it down tomorrow with little issue.

Not happy. Had the engine sitting on the cart for 5 days full of oil after torqueing the bolts back down. No leaks whatsoever. 1 night on the frame a good sized puddle on the floor and all over the engine plate. Needs further investigation, but looks like it's coming from up where the piston sleeve meets the block. If that is the actual case, this engine is done. Man I hate lifting engines these days. At least an opposed has lift points, these "V's" do not. At least mine does not.

There was an old expression about Detroit diesels, “If there ain’t oil under it, there ain’t no oil in it. I work with old trucks and the Detroits are identifiable because of the 3-4 plastic plates under them to catch drips. Kind of random but I thought it pertained somehow lol. Hope you can save her, got confidence you will.
Same is true with British motorcycles. Oil puddles are good news.
I worked at airports during summers when I was in high school and college. We had big drip pans for the radial engine planes, and would quickly slide them under the engine as soon as the prop stopped turning.

I don’t know these engines. Why/how would oil be at the case/jug joint? I guess I need to look it up.
I was thinking that maybe there was a stress crack there. Possibly blown at one time and rebuild and the P/O didn't notice?
I did get around to messing with it yesterday. I got the engine drained and flipped it over for investigation. I'm pretty sure the oil going up towards the sleeve was just oil being wicked. I didn't see any cracks, so I busted it open and quickly seen issues with the gasket. Rest of the internals looked good.
Here is where the oil I saw was coming from...
Another point of issue... I do have the heavy duty cam! :-)
All cleaned up, checked out (rods etc.) New gasket laid.
All buttoned back up and mounted to the frame AGAIN....
UPDATE: Sat over night and no oil leaks to mention.

Another quick update. Now that I have a belt installed, not 100% happy with that. 95" seems a tad too big but 94" is way too small. Go figure. I'll run with the 95 for now. Belt guides in. I have hand rotated the engine several times and the belt seems happy where it is. Curious how when clutched will work out.
Fender pan on, lower steering tower installed as well as a new solenoid. Wiring starts tomorrow. It's getting a full rewire. Only connectors where applicable will be used.

It just hit me: if this is Bowser, Then should we give L’il Red the alias of Mario?
Hahaha….
It was down to Bowser or one of the TMNT characters. I went with Bowser since he was yellow and green. I don’t remember if I mentioned it but I went with a turtle because there was a toy turtle on fender off the tractor. I meant to leave it there (where I bought it) but forgot. The toy made it home going down the interstate 45 minutes.

Fuel tank is cramping my style. lol. JBWeld has a fuel tank fix. I wonder how that would work on a plastic tank. It’s a clean break inside a seam? May be worth it for 5 bucks.
Now for a teaser!

I tried that stuff on the craps-mans fuel tank a few years back. Might have even mentioned it early on in the og repair thread... don't remember. But I tried it and it was absolutely terrible for me. Could have just been whatever I was doing for set time/cure time type stuff but who knows. I won't be buying that stuff again, but it's up to you if you want to try it. Can't hurt anything if it's already cracked I guess.
