This is my 1986 6 speed Craftsman II all it cost me was 40 bucks a flat screen and a sore back I'm not fully into the build yet but I've been piddling around on it
The engine was in pretty rough shape the oil was overfilled and thick it was left without a carburetor and the Pistons are rusted to the walls of the cylinder so I made the executive decision to pull it so i can put a better one on Also with a swing set and a come along (with help from the dog of course) makes getting an engine out a little bit easier

Well then you have one of best transaxles for our purposes that you can get! When it comes to locking it the "Moose Knuckle" is the best option as it's really strong, easy and also reversible.
Not a 633a of the suburban era, but still pretty much the same transaxle that fits the wider frames of the craftsman. Built by AYP/Roper. Dang good trans.

I've had one in the mid 20's mph. Remember the transaxle pulley is on a tapered shaft. So, pulley swapping typically consists of drilling out the stock pulley hub and welding to another pulley.

20 mph is plenty for me. as for the pulley I've done that a couple of times before

Looks about like the one that came with my David Bradley (proto-sears suburban)
It was about like a regular briggs flathead except put together weird and like twice as heavy. The exhaust valve is stuck and I accidentally sheared the cam gear key trying to move it
Yup, I have a 1977 16hp I/C in the Mud Duck , something you want to know? Mine is a solid reliable runner after some minor work but it sat for a few years before I got it.
Wouldn't it be a pity if someone was to put Polaris swingarms on a Craftsman this is just a idea I had last night at 3am so I might not run with it Lol
