| QUESTION TO YOU ALL!!Since I have the problem, that my MTDs battery discharges faster than it charges, I need a solution. Here are pics from the 2 different ,,Alternators" I have for it: the left 1 is the stock 1 (have a spare from a blown flatty) the right 1 is the 1 off the replacement engine that's in mowing Murray, swapped a 2 output wire 1 into it the pics from the 2 wire ,,Alternator" the red wire coils seem to be thicker, and the black wire coils seem to be thinner. The thick coils are only on 1 side, the thin coils are on the opposite side. the Pics of the other only 1 output ,,Alternator" this 1 has thicker wired coils that go all the way around! SO MY QUESTIONS: - what happens if I connect the 2 wires from the 2 wire ,,alternator" to get more battery charging boost? - does the 1 wire ,,Alternator" have more battery charging boost? And if Yes, would it be worth it to swap the ,,Alternators" out to get that problem solved?? MTD runs 2 12V 18W LED lights off the battery. Thanks. would be appreciated for your help!!! | |

| The 2 wire stator (black and red wired one) The red wire is for charging the battery, on the plug end for the red wire where the black covering is is the diode to turn the AC output to DC output for hooking up straight to the battery. The black wire on the same stator is for lights only and is AC output. To use both wires for battery charging, you need to put a diode on the black wire, just like the red wire to change the power to DC, then connect the 2 wires together on the other end of the plug going to the battery. You will increase amps then, for charging the battery.
The 1 wired stator, with the coils going around all the way, would have the most output. You would need to put a diode on the single wire because it looks like there is no diode on it. Probably went to a regulator first, then to the battery. The regulator having the diode in it. This stator would have the same output or a little more then the 2 wired stator with both of the wires combined. The single wired stator has the thick wire in coils all the way around. More thick wire means more output, always. The 2 wired stator has thick on half and thin on half, which makes me thing the combined output of the 2 wires would be slightly less then the single wired stator.
If you have a bad stator laying around, you can unwrap the wire, taking note how many turns are on each coil and the direction with the path of the wrap of the wire. Then rewrap the coils with more turns and keeping the same direction and path of the wrap. You can use automotive starter solenoid wire by taking them apart and getting the wire out of them. There is alot of wire on those and the same type of wire too. 2 solenoids would be plenty of wire to make a high output stator. Then solder a diode on it. For the extreme of things. | |

| Also as a minor update I dove into the new pressure lube opposed last night and found some very nice crosshatching on the cylinder walls: Good to know! She should clean up quite nicely I'm thinking.
