Well she runs semi sorta ok at half choke. Doesn't wander like she used to going down the road. Got death wobble once, not that severe though. Calmed down as soon as it started. Steering does autocenter but she pulls to the left some. Probably didn't get the axle perfectly straight, no big deal.
Thanks man. I wish i had a good Bridgeport style mill myself lol. I've made do for a long time with just a drill press, i could do great stuff with a bridgeport.
So I gave up on this thing for a while after it started running lean. She was sitting outside up until last night when i aired up the tires and rolled her into the shop.
The O rings i put on the main jet that came with the carb kit were pretty stretched out. They were the wrong size anyways. I cleaned out the main jet and put it back in with one good O ring. Now she's running fat again, but at least i can ride it without it stalling now.
Also the seat had a lot more water in it than i thought. Gross lol
Really? I got a carb for a 15 horse Kohler Command for like 15 bucks (it ran better with the old one though). Got a coil for it too and it was about the same price.
The V-twin carbs I see are pretty much ranging from $20 to $60. Now if yours has the dual throttle plates you're probably right about finding another engine for that price.

Aftermarket parts for all Kohler models are abundant and pretty easy to get, Stens, Oregon, Laser, even isavetractors. Everything from ignition parts to full on rebuild kits.
Take that from a guy who's tinkered with a Kohler or two in his lifetime, haha.

The cheapest carb I see for this engine is around $200.
Still fighting the carb. I'm only really trying to get it running so i can get the tires off and mutt put together. There was a lot of junk in and around the main jet. Odd, i thought i cleaned it. I still haven't found O rings to fit the slow jet.
I guess if you were desperate you could make a 90 out of the intake and put a regular style carb on it. I know my old onan has a carb similar to a briggs oppy carb.....dont know if they make cheap aftermarket ones but maybe. Any other downdraft carbs you know that exists?

I actually just discovered an aftermarket carb under a different part no. that should fit for $40. Damnit, the springy Canadian was right. The parts are cheap if you look hard enough. If only i had $40.
However, i succeeded in making one UHMW o ring. I'm gonna try it with that and see if it improves lol. I'm just spitballing at this point.
I didn't want to pay $3 apiece for an O ring less than ¼" in diameter. I turned a punch on my lathe to punch them out of inner tube. They'll have to be replaced every time as this type of rubber expands on contact with gas, but that expansion should help it seal.
This thing is tons of fun when it's running right. It's actually a lot quieter, odd. It backfires a bit when you let off the throttle, a normal amount though. It also struggles a bit on hard acceleration but I'm gonna say that's because it doesn't have a booster pump like the bigger kohlers. This is all well enough for me, I'm done messing with the carb.
I'm now working on making hubs for the atv wheels i have so i can put Mutt's fronts back on Mutt.
I figured it might be cool to use the stock headlights on this hood. I found a set of headlight sockets and modified them to fit the housings. While looking for another bulb I found the stock sockets woth good bulbs that i forgot i had. Lol. The bit i had to file wasn't invasive, so i just stuck the stock ones in
Not as good as the big sealed beam lights Mutt or Budgie has, but better than nothing.
I'd really love to take this thing on a good spin but the back left tire doesn't hold air for more than a few minutes.
I'm thinking on a hood latch and possibly a bumper now.
Lazy or smart I'm not sure, did hood latches by drilling a hole through the hood and grille and putting a bolt in the grille. Just pull the hood out over them to open it. There's one on either side.
