What year and model is this murray the model and serial numbers are unreadable

Oh wow! That thing is beautiful! I don't know the MO but you'll have to tell us everything you know about it (like, motor HP, type of trans and the amount of gears, deck size, etc.) for anyone to figure it out. But still, I haven't seen one that nice in... never.

The MO is... ¨ Runs good but back tire wont hold air has a plug in it the gear selector is funny natural is reverse so you can't change it to reverse no battery and when you try to cut deck on to mow it trys to die $180 ¨  $140 here are 2 more pictures I was going to make it a racer but it might be too nice/clean

also has a rust free deck amazingly don't know the size but it is not very big and don't know what  kind of transaxle and I will probably do a mild pulley swap but keep it to where I can still mow with it

As far as i know the 12/38 designation is the model. 12hp, 38" deck. These models are referred to as "Pan Frame" because of the single piece stamped frame design.

Sounds like a good candidate to clean up and flip.

No, it's 12/38. I've been around a few of these.

I'm not sure. The one's I've seen have had peerless MST series, but it's possible yours has a 900 series or a dana/foote.

MSTs and 900s are. Dana/Foote/Spicers have a bad reputation for blowing up, though.

ok and do you think that 20x10-8 tires would clear on the back

as you can see in the first picture it's the 12/38 on a yard machine but in the second picture if you look closely you can see that it is 12738 on my mower

Promise you, it's not, just wait.

If it doesn't have 20x10-8s already, I'm 90% sure itll clear them just fine.

Actually, if you're gonna keep the deck on, 20's will not clear. I bought one of those to flip once and the guy had an 18 on one side and a 20 on the other. The 20 was rubbing the deck.

Richie's right. It's 12/38. What you're seeing is where it says, "12", they also put "HP" right beside it in very small letters. And then when they put the slash beside that it makes it look like a 7. You'll also find beside the "38" it will have a quotation mark there or, as I think you know, in math means "inches." So that means it's a 12 HP with a 38 inch deck.

As for the trans, it could most definitely be an MST or 900. I have a rather nasty opinion on the 930. I like MST's. But the one's with 930's are normally a side shift and are normally 6 speeds and are normally a shift-on-the-go. Tell you what, when you get the tractor, snap a shot of the trans and post it here.

Anyway, it surely is clean. But so was Ol' Blue. So it's your decision what to do with it, but I'll tell ya, if I had a full day to wrench on it, I could have it on the market by nightfall.

It's about a 1988 model Murray 12^hp/38" or 12/38 as mentioned.



If I had to guess on transaxle... maybe an MST205? I cannot guarantee that.

what could be causing the mower not to shift in to reverse

Shifter could be out of adjustment. That is, if it can be adjusted.

Actually I might have been wrong. You may not be able to. Just look at it for a while and you'll figure it out if it's adjustable.

could you see if you can find a part/s manual and operator manual and maybe even a repair manual
