Maybe.. No decisions made at this point. I know it needs some love! I think it may be time to revive and rebuild some stuff on it. Maybe give it the spindle treatment too!
Engine! Kal's engine ended up in the Purple People Eater.
Rack&Pinion boots.
Headlights (TDR got the old ones)
new 4on4 hubs (TDR got the old ones)
Also a handful of minor things like wiring and fuel lines.
Other things to look into. Like clutch. Can I do this better? Spindle upgrade like on Red? Monolink mount hangs really low. Can it be raised and not interfere with steering?
Aye! Glad I retired Kal when I did, another Haspin trip could have ended disastrously. Although, this would be a good reason my belt kept throwing on the last day. I thought it was belt stretch. Nope...
Aye! The transaxle was completely loose in there.
Another major issue I saw was the fuel line was severely cracked and leaking.
Well, Kal now has garage priority. Right now, I am dumping the transaxle oil. It had a good deal of water in it. Magnet plug was pretty covered as well. First thing I'm going to do is pull it out and tear it apart for a good internal inspection. Hate that the gasket set I got for Dirty Rat for $36 is now about $70 with shipping!
I'll see what I need and get those parts individually.
I know I need:
2-3 1" oil seals
2 axle shaft bearings
I'll RTV the 2 haves together this time
new 1" snap rings
It's a start. We'll see.
Those welded on extensions out the back have got to go!
Then for the is it dumb moment. To make this thing a roller to get back to the garage. I used a piece of wire in the snap ring gap. The snap ring broke putting it back on.
If you guessed cleaning, you would have guessed correctly. I'll need both side axle seals. I can already tell the locker is feeling good. I may not bust it open. I am thinking of popping off the shifter cap and creating a vent off it.
In other news, not only were ALL 8 nuts on top loose, but the bracket with the idler pulley was hanging on literally by 2 threads. OUCH! I was close to full disassembly while riding! Hate to think of that happening on a hill!
To think when I got home from Haspin in '21. I haven't ridden it since. It was this way at Haspin.
Hmm, done for the night, but left a little confused. The axle seals actually look good. The issue is, or is it? Side to side play in the axle. Seems excessive. I don't remember Dirty Rat's axle moving so much. It makes it easy to pop the seals out. I know I need new O-rings. Mozzle get the seals too. Guess I will be cracking the case. I feel like I need to stack some washers in there to take the play out.
Edit: No washers go in there. Besides they would need to be like 2 inch bore. I think the slack it taken up by the hubs. I am missing a thin washer between them and the axle housing. I'll roll with it.
Might be a neat opportunity to change paint scheme- I don’t want to tell you how to build something, but metallic blue with a white hood would look awesome on this tractor.

That darker blue was a Cobalt Blue Metallic paint. I have been thinking about a refresh on the paint. I have a decent sander to rough it up now. I do think a "blue" is still in order. I'll probably stay away from Red and Yellow.
White, silver, grey, black sound like good accents.
Axle seals and orings came in today. Those are now installed as well.
Great news! I got notice my pulleys are coming in early. TOMORROW. I'll believe it when I see it. Sunday depending on rain, I may rehit the frame with some semi-gloss paint.
As I mentioned, the monolink attachment point needed rewelded due to weak boogers.
One of these is not like the other.
AH.... much better.
Now to fix the rack boots, a minor tweak on the soon to be repainted front axle. Then I can flip this back over. Oh and the clutch pulley still needed.
The peerless 2300 is some oil and one snap ring shy of reinstall. Drilled and tapped a hole in the shifter cone for a vent line. It does not even come close to the back side of the nipple. I believe it is a 3/8" Hose ID x 1/4" NPT. This should help a lot not blowing out the new oil seals.
I have decided I will stick with the "J" spindles on Kal. I want as tall as possible.
Knuckle style spindles doesn’t mean short- Mutt has knuckle style spindles that extend down several inches to compensate for height. When I put the 21s on the front of her I actually cut the bolts off that I use as spindles and welded them up higher on the channel iron to level her out.
Then again J spindles are generally strong enough. Dad accidentally broke one on budgie moving it around with the loader. Those spindles seemed pretty soft anyway. I just braced them by welding nuts in the elbow of the spindle. I think mr.moo did that first on his Baja Sears build. May have been someone else though.
HAHA, not sure why I am doing this, because most of the tractor is the same.
I guess because the b/w looks cool!
My one clutch pulley is lost in the system somewhere. I'll give it till Friday then I'll go for a refund. It's going to be a while before I get it driving yet.
I will be getting some fuel line today so I can get that plumbed up before it gets too hard to reach the gas tank.
Long evening tonight. Got about 60% of the wiring done. I still lack 1 accessory, tether kill, and finishing the horn. Also, once I get an engine installed, the kill, charge, headlight and floodlights.
