Going to start a new thread for my latest tractor. I still don't have the serial # for it. I should before the end of the week. I believe it is an early to mid 90's Craftsman GT. Pretty close to the GT6000, heck it may be the precursor. Not sure when Craftsman with with the 6000, 4000, 1000, etc. series tractors. I'll update the title when I know more.
Here is a look of it's current state. It needs a Grill and a breather tube. That's about all I see. The starter will either need be cleaned up or changed out. It is spinning pretty good, just not engaging. I'm figuring at this time it needs a cleaning. Also look into a new flywheel fan and screen. The hood got into the fan and rubbed off the nubs for a screen.
That's pretty much what I see initially. Was told it ran... we all know how that is. It does have good compression and good new oil in it. Oil does not smell of gas. Tank was empty, hopefully they ran it out and not leak. Tank did not smell of varnish. Deck PTO appeared to work, it clicked when turned on and off.
Plan for this beast?
I'm thinking of a mild resto-mod. Full tear down and repaint. I would like to redo the stickers, but clickitandstickit doesn't have this model's stickers. I do plan on keeping it a mower this time. Other than missing some plastic pieces, it is in great shape. Spindles even turn smoothly! Could use a little grease.

cool that's a nice-looking tractor I think it should look pretty darn good considering how nice the green machine turned out! this is the one you got for free right?

I've always loved the GT platform. Can wait to see what you do with it.

My dad got it running, runs very nice. I see why people like the magnum 18. It runs so smooth.
Right now, I am mostly planning a restoration when it gets here. That is why I placed it in the utilty thread. I just wish clickitandstickit had the stickers for this model. They are a bit pricy, but they seem to make good quality.

And they are basically bulletproof for anything smaller than an anti tank round. They simply will not die. I’m generally not a big Kohler fan but without a doubt the K series and magnums will outlast pretty much any other small engine out there. I think Doc ran one for a long time in the original Mule.

My dad seems to be having a good time messing with the old tractor. I told him to hang onto it until he gets bored with it.
I did steal the hood to do something with it.
This is the before.
This is what I have done with it. LOL. I call it the Grill-top Grill. HAHA...

Hmm... I took a pic of the tractor with the hood on. I guess I missed the picture button and not paying attention. No current pic.
The steering rod needed some fixin'.
My dad took it to "unnamed professional welder in the family" to fix. I told him I would do it right, but he took it there first.
This is what he got... ugh. (2 score marks are by me. Planning my fix) What kind of boogery is this? I think he poorly tried to do what the previous owner did on the opposite end.
...And here is my fix.
MUCH BETTER! Also, now serviceable should the ball joint fail in the future. I have a handful more... then even better maybe change them to heims later? Like I said, now serviceable.
Interesting... I just realized. heim does not follow the rule of "i" before 'e" except after "c" and sounding like "A" like neighbor and weigh. I know there are several exceptions like weird, protein, etc.
Next time I am out, I'll try to get a proper pic up to date.

Forgive me for resurrecting a dead topic. I couldn’t help but say that if you wanted headlights, mounting them semi-hidden behind the grill like an old dodge would be awesome looking

This is the exact tractor that the GT6K started out as, same engine and everything. Suprised I never saw it on here lol.
